INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 4.0 A CHALLENGE AND AN OPPORTUNITY

The industrial revolution 4.0 is a revolution (acceleration) where humans have found new techniques / methods / ways with very fast technological advances, so that they can threaten various types of businesses that use conventional production methods.

 

Reflecting on previous experience, the rapid development of the industry has hit many victims which has caused the decline of the conventional business world. According to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in 2014, stated that the definition of the industrial revolution 4.0 is a comprehensive transformation of all aspects of production that occurs in the industrial world, through a combination of digital technology and the internet, with conventional industry.

 

With the industrial revolution 4.0, there is a change in perspective, where the size of a company is no longer a guarantee, but how a company can adapt to the new era, and have quick adjustments to achieve an achievement, goal, and target in the industry. the company. Various kinds of new technologies, which had never been thought of before, began to emerge. such as online motorcycle taxi services, payments via gadgets, to e-commerce which are emerging in the midst of the industrial revolution that is currently happening.

 

Then how is the development of the industrial revolution 4.0 in Indonesia? According to the Ministry of Industry, there are 5 industrial sectors that the government will focus on for the implementation of the 4.0 industrial revolution, including chemicals, electronics, garments, automotive, and also FMCG. The results of a survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, there are 4 technologies that dominate in this era, between 2018-2022, namely high speed mobile internet, AI (Artificial Intelligence, cloud technology, and big data analysis. The survey also shows that 92% companies in Indonesia will implement the use of big data analysis as one of the main forms of technology in the company.

 

In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, companies no longer compete or only focus on the number or results of production made, but competition is more directed at how each company is able to provide innovation, maximum service, and the speed of a company in developing an idea. If the company wants to survive the rigors of competition in this 4.0 industrial revolution, then everyone is required to understand technology and use it and implement it in everyday life in order to compete with all the automation that exists in this era.
